Mexican butterworts, or Pinguicula, are carnivorous plants that are easy to grow and make excellent houseplants.. They catch and digest insects using their sticky leaves to compensate for a lack of nutrients in the soil.
Pinguicula take one many forms throughout seasons. They go into dormancy also known as a succulent phase when the temperature starts to cool down. During this time you don’t need to water as much they suck up water into their leaves to get them through.
It is important not to fertilise these plants, they get their food from catching insects. Rain or distilled water is also important these plants are very reactive to different nutrients and minerals that could be in tap water.
