NZ-Pon

NZ-Pon is the perfect semi hydro alternative without any added fertiliser so you are in control of what your plant is fed and when.

NZ-Pon is 100% suitable for all plants and consists of high quality, mineral stones, that are free from contamination and pollutants. Pon is a mineral based (soil-free and inorganic) substrate made of three ingredients: Zeolite, Pumice and Lava Rocks (Scoria).

NZ-Pon is a great substrate for growing houseplants in semi hydro. Semi Hydro is a way of growing plants in a soilless substrate. Any substrate that’s porous enough to allow water wicking makes a great semi hydro growth media. The plant is placed in a water reservoir to be self watered, making watering a breeze!

Even after some time, the structurally stable plant substrate does not condense and compact keeping its air permeable structure.  NZ-Pon can be used for years without having to be replaced. The substance zeolite in Pon stabilises the ideal PH balance for healthy plant growth. The Pon will act like a buffer that absorbs excessive fertiliser and gives it back to the plant when needed. This natural nutrient storage prevents the burning of roots through over fertilising. This purely mineral plant substrate prevents fungus and insects that attack plant roots.

Zeolite is known for its porous nature. Zeolite stabilises the ideal PH balance for healthy plant growth. Prevents burning of roots through overfertilising as it absorbs and stores excessive  natural nutrients and releases it back to the plant when needed.

Pumice is used for absorbing moisture because of it porous nature and wicks it throughout the pot while also having the benefit of leaving air pockets without compacting. The. Ingest cause of root rot is from lack of air so pumice is a great solution!

Lava rocks are unique, rough and porous, which enables them to quickly absorb and retain both moisture and heat.. It allows excellent drainage which prevents water logging. It absorbs heat during the day and releases it slowly at night, creating a more stable environment.

NZ-Pon uses the exact same ingredients as any other Pon substrate on the market except we take out the fertiliser so you can be in control of what you feed your plants and when!

Available in two grades:

Fine: 1-7mm- Suitable for fine to medium root sized plants. Great for propagating. Perfect for baby plants just starting out

Chunky: 6-14mm- Suitable for larger root sized plants. Mature plants. Adding to your soil for added drainage.

Although we have pre-washed and soaked your Pon please wash before use to thoroughly remove any small particles and dust that we may have missed. It is also a good habit to get into.
